Birthday Tunez

4 Mar

GOOD MORNING, BLOGFRIENDS!

It may be Monday, but today isn’t just any Monday. It’s my birthday! Hooray to me!

And in honor of the 24th anniversary of my existence I have a present for all of you. Please enjoy the happiest songs that have crossed my path in the last week and indulge in some therapeutic under-the-desk toe tapping.

<500,000 Views – Lady Lamb the Beekeeper

1 Mar

It’s been far too long since we ran across an artist deserving of mention who also fit the requisite <500,000 views on YouTube.

Or maybe we’ve just been lazy about finding unknowns. (Entirely likely.)

Anyway! We give you “Aubergine” by Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. What do you think? (Personally, I like the raspy quality of her voice and the anxious acoustic guitar speaks to my anxious, backwoods soul; but I don’t think either of us are rushing to download, either.) ((The aubergine sheets line, though? I totally have aubergine sheets!))

P.S. Her awesome name came from her dream journal and she wrote most of her songs in the wee hours of the morning in a dank basement laundry.

P.P.S. All due credit to NPR for finding her and providing the above info.

Enjoy these obviously not studio-produced stylings!

She told me… DANCE!

Happy Friday! Joyeux Vendredi! Everythings is better in French, including pop music!
All the exclamation points (apparently)!!!

<500,000 Views – The Basement

8 Nov

Penny and Circe have been there with Eric Hutchinson since almost the beginning. Going to shows, buying albums, and having inappropriate screaming fits in the middle of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants II movie because “Rock & Roll” is awesome and there is something really exciting about hearing your favorite little-known artist on the big screen.

Hutchinson’s music is notable for it’s syncopated rhythms, clever songwriting/lyrics, and piano riffs.

Off his new album Moving up Living Down, P&P presents (with the help of YouTube) “The Basement”.

Fall Fridays: Leaves (and observations on the same)

19 Oct

The leaves! They are changing! And they are pretty! (When I am wearing my rose-colored sunglasses!)

And… this has nothing to do with leaves unless you want to count the homonym verb “to leave”, which is what Kimbra wants the subject of this song to do to his wife. But. We had to share because people should know Kimbra is so much more than the anemic-sounding featured female in that Gotye-Song-That-Must-Not-Be-Named.

<500,000 Views – The Basics

18 Oct

Penny: I like him so much better as part of The Basics than as Gotye.

Polly: Oooooo! This is so pleasant!

Penny: Right?! It’s like the Beatles before they got weird… And if they’d had babies with Simon and Garfunkel.

ABC’s Nashville (Penny’s Serial Drama Problem Continues)

17 Oct

Polly has a Reality TV Problem; I have a Serial Drama Problem.

Which is why I was intrigued by the promos for ABC’s Nashville. And also why I was determined to not watch the pilot because I. Already. Watch. Too. Many. Shows.

But then NCIS wasn’t new last night and Sister went searching on OnDemand.

Sister: Should we?

Penny: Ahhhh. I don’t know. I’m kinda afraid to? I want it to be the new GCB, but I also don’t because I do not need any more shows.

Sister: Me too. Me. Too. But… better to start now than have to get caught up?

First commercial break.

Sister: Well, if this doesn’t get better we aren’t going to have to worry about watching it.

Penny: They… have good hairdressers?

Laundry, Facebooking, lunch packing, intermittent watching.

Penny: What just happened?

Sister: She [Connie Britton] is complaining about her [Hayden Panettiere].

Penny: And then they cut to the shot of Hayden lying in sexy repose amidst tangled silk sheets?

Sister: Pretty much. Yes, that is what happened.

Yet more distracted watching. Penny sits down to see the last five minutes.

Penny: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Sister: You like them, don’t you?

At least I have stopped watching Greys, Bones and Glee. I am, therefore, still watching fewer shows than last year. Losing battles, but winning the war. (Also, knew I knew that song.)
