Chuckle Chart

4 Oct

We are responsible, contributing members of society and what that primarily means is we spend a lot of time “at work” talking to our friends through various chat mediums and getting paid for it. While we are ever thankful for technology’s ability to keep us connected despite the handful of states that separate us, inflection, innuendo, sarcasm, and reactions can be difficult to judge through the ever-illusive medium of instant messaging. So to clarify one of these fuzzy points,

Penny and Polly Present:

A translation of Internet Chat Laughter

lol – I am either in high school or haven’t intellectually grown since high school. There is no actual laughter; I’m just unsure how to respond and am uncomfortable with silence. Even text silence. (Also, I may or may not b ur parent trying to b cool.)

LOL – I’m facetiously reacting to an @yourawaymessage tweet or am even less intellectually mature than a common lol-er.

lololololololololol – Unless I am being ironic you should probably dissolve your ties with me.

haha – I am politely responding to the mildly amusing thing you just sent.

hahaha! –
The corners of my mouth twitched into what could have become a smile.

I both completely relate to and am greatly amused by the thing you just sent!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha –
I snorted a little, but nothing emotive enough to distract my officemates.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA – A barely perceptible but nonetheless real snicker escaped me.

BAHAHAHhahahahahaaaHAAAAAHAHAHAHhahahHA – That was funny! It was actually funny!

HEY! I am an avid user of the lol. It is to indicate that it was a joke, or something humorous. Because recently I have been informed that my humor doesn’t always come clear to people AND I NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW OK!?

I am a fan of “actually lolling” (pronounced phonetically) and I think at makes me the worst kind of person. I’m ok with that.
