Hearsay No. 1 – Hardcore Mariachi

As a self-proclaimed literary figures fangirl and an admirer of all things camp, I’m delighted to share with you the musical juxtaposition that is Mariachi el Bronx. At long last, the world has a punk mariachi group, and let me assure you , it is exactly as cool as it sounds.

According to our sources (an acquaintance’s Facebook post) ((we’re really reliable here at P and P)) Mariachi el Bronx was born when the punk rock band the Bronx was asked to perform an acoustic set. They thought the idea of a hardcore band doing anything unplugged was outrageous and decided to take it over the top.  After gathering up some mariachi instruments and a whole lot of irony, they covered their own songs with a Mexican flair. But the audience was verklempt with joy,  and they’ve recorded several albums as Mariachi el Bronx since. Behold:
